WISHING YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Dear Parents and Students,
For the past several years, I have posted links to our textbook publisher’s website which contained MANY useful aides for students…..online video tutors, online extra examples that could be printed off, online section quizzes, online chapter tests, etc. It was a GREAT way for students to receive assistance away from school.
Our textbooks are so old by the publisher’s standards that they are no longer “tech supported” and the website that was such a great help to so many has now been “retired” with this message:
|Please note that this site was retired on August 11th, 2017 as part of a continuous effort to provide you with the most relevant and up to date content. Please contact your sales representative or click here to discuss alternative solutions that best fit your needs.|
I had no advance knowledge of the retirement of their website, so when we started school this year on August 9, I showed all my students this website and what all it would do. That information is now worthless.
As an alternative, I was approached by a person with Reviews.com, which “has researched, catalogued, and analyzed all the different tutoring platforms that are currently popular to get an understanding of what they offer and how a student can get the most out of their services. You can see the entire guide along with some of its features here:”
I have not researched these links, nor am I aware of their cost, if any, or usefulness, but since our publisher’s site has been retired, I felt I needed to offer my students the information I have.
Another useful site that contains videos of lessons arranged by topic that I personally have used from time to time in my classroom is www.khanacademy.org.
I am available for tutoring in my classroom before school at 7:30 and most afternoons until 3:15 or so. Mrs. Burns is also available most afternoons after school. Students should always confirm with me or Mrs. Burns a day in advance, if possible, when they are making plans to come in after school.
Although I am disappointed that a wonderful website is no longer available to assist my students, this website was not something that I relied on for my teaching, so it will not affect what happens in my classroom.
We are off to a great start this year! I will continue to push my students to strive for excellence and to learn to not be satisfied with anything less than their personal best.
