My Blessed Life
I was born to Ray and Lois Terrell of Bokchito. I attended Bokchito Public Schools for 12 years. (Back in the day, we had no Pre K or Kindergarten.) During high school, I enjoyed playing the flute in the band. (Yes, Bokchito had a marching band!) I was a majorette and a cheerleader.
In the fall of 1978, I married my high school sweetheart, Steve Dill, and became a student at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I graduated with honors in 1982. During my college years and for three years after, I worked as a secretary for a feed fat company, a shoe sales clerk, and a manager of a 30-unit mobile home complex and a 50-unit apartment complex. I also worked as a secretary for an attorney. During this time, I learned a lot about business, being organized, and being responsible.
In 1985, my high school superintendent, David Daley, hired me to teach 5th grade at Bokchito. I taught all core subjects, plus art and 6th grade reading. In 1991, Blue and Bokchito schools consolidated and formed Rock Creek Public Schools. I taught 5th and 6th grade for 19 years and 4th for the past 12 years.
In 2009, I was honored to be chosen as Rock Creek's Elementary Teacher of the Year and Bryan County's Elementary Teacher of the Year.
I am a member of Abundant Life Temple in Durant and currently serve on the administrative board. My husband and I were married at ALT 38 years ago and both of my children were married there.
Both of my children are Rock Creek graduates. Mandy (Dill) Callaway is married to Brent, and they have a home in Poteau, Oklahoma. She is a PTA in Poteau. Brent is a radiation therapist in Ft. Smith. They are also youth pastors at their church in Poteau. They have given us our first precious grandchild, Huck Easton Callaway. Travis Dill is married to Charlee (Goodwin), and they have a home in Roberta. He is a police officer for the Durant Police Department, and she is an English teacher at Caddo. They are wonderful children and have made me very proud to be their mother.
This is my 32nd year to teach. I am blessed that God directed my path toward teaching. He has surrounded me with the most wonderful colleagues and students anyone could ever ask for. It has been a very enjoyable and rewarding career. I have spent a total of 43 years in the Bokchito - Rock Creek School system as a student and teacher. I am blessed to have made Rock Creek my home!
